Common Questions About Our Garden & Riverside Walks

Everything you need to know about visiting Mount Usher Gardens and exploring the Avoca Valley with us

Mount Usher has accessible paths suitable for most abilities, with level sections through the main gardens and woodland walks. We also offer shorter routes at Avoca that avoid steep terrain — just let us know your needs when booking and we'll tailor the experience to you.

Our Mount Usher tours run 3–4 hours with plenty of stops to admire the gardens and rest. Avoca riverside walks are gentler at 2–3 hours, depending on which route you choose. We always pace things to suit the group.

Spring (April–May) is magical for rhododendrons and woodland flowers, while autumn (September–October) offers stunning colour and cooler temperatures. Summer's lovely too, though it can get warm during the day. We're open year-round, and each season has its own charm — read more about seasonal highlights here .

You'll need your own transport to reach the gardens, but we've got detailed parking and accessibility information to help you plan. Both Mount Usher and Avoca have car parks on-site, and we can advise on the easiest routes.

Comfortable walking shoes, layers (Irish weather's unpredictable!), and a light rain jacket are essentials. Bring water and a snack if you like, though we often stop near cafés. Sunscreen and a hat are useful in warmer months, and binoculars if you're keen on spotting birds along the riverside.

Absolutely — we love arranging private tours for groups of friends, family, or clubs. It's a wonderful way to explore at your own pace with a guide who knows the gardens inside and out. Get in touch to discuss dates and group size, and we'll work out the details.
